Abide – Good Morning

In Psalm 37:2-5 NLT says, “3 Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. 4 Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. 5 Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.”

Trust is the antidote to envy and resentment (Proverbs 3:5). Trust in . . . Delight thyself also in – God elicits delight and is the only one that can meet the desires of our hearts. Desires of thine heart – Psalms 20:5; 21:2; referring to those things that are lawful, right, and good (Psalm 84:11).

David calls us to take delight in the Lord and to commit everything we have and do to Him. But how do we do this? To delight in someone means to experience great pleasure and joy in his or her presence. This happens only when we know that person well. Thus, to delight in the Lord, we must know Him better. Knowledge of God’s great love for us will indeed give us delight.

To commit ourselves to the Lord means entrusting everything – our lives, families, jobs, possessions – to his control and guidance. To commit ourselves to the Lord means to trust in Him (Psalm 37:5), believing that He can care for us better than we can ourselves. We should be willing to wait patiently (Psalm 37:7) for Him to work out what is best for us.

Abide – Good Night

Old Made New

In Psalm 34:1-22 NLT says, “17 O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood,
and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. 18 Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. 19 Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things.
Who can compare with you, O God? 20 You have allowed me to suffer much hardship,
but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. 21 You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again.”

The psalmist was old and saw his life as an “example,” a solemn sign or testimony to others of all God had done for him (Psalm 71:7, 18). Remembering our lifetime of blessings will help us to see the consistency of God’s grace throughout the years, trust Him for the future, and share with others the benefits of following Him.

taught me from my youth” – His past experiences again encourage him. God has taught him through his providential dealings.

who is like unto thee! ” – God is incomparable and beyond human imagination (Exodus 15:11, 8; Psalm 86:8; Micah 7:18).

from the depths of the earth” – i.e., the realms of the dead, the underworld.

greatness” – meaning “honor.”

The Gospel – The Good News

In John 3:16-17 NLT says, “16 “For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.”

The message of The Good News – The Gospel comes to a focus in these verses. God’s love is not static or self-centered; it reaches out and draws others in. Here God sets the pattern of true love, the basis for all love relationships – when we love someone dearly, we are willing to give freely to the point of self-sacrifice. God paid dearly with the life of His Son, the highest price He could pay. Our Lord Jesus Christ accepted our punishment, paid the price for our sins, and then offered us the new life that He had bought for us. When we share the Good News with others, our love must be like our Lord Jesus Christ’s – willingly giving up our own comfort and security so that others might join us in receiving God’s unconditional love.

In John 14:6-7 NLT says, “6 Jesus told him, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Me. 7 If you had really known Me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him!”

This is one of the most basic and important passages in Scripture. How can we know the way to God? Only through our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Way because He is both God and man. By uniting our lives with His, we are united with God. Trust our Lord Jesus Christ, and in the power of the Holy Spirit to take you to our Father God, and all the benefits of being God’s child will be yours.
