The Fruit of the HOLY SPIRIT
Podcast Episode: The Fruit of the HOLY SPIRIT – GOODNESS #4
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, AND SELF-CONTROL. There is no law against these things.” [Galatians 5:22-23 NLT]

Living In The Light
In Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT says, “1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”

This book, "From The WORDS And THOUGHTS To The SWORDS And BATTLEGROUNDS" is planned and designed with three goals in mind (thought): • To help us become more like our Lord Jesus Christ - so much like Him that our family, loved ones, friends, and others in our lives can see Him manifested and reflected in our words, actions, and attitudes. • To help us surrender and submit to God and resist the devil. • To help us be always victorious in our lives by winning the spiritual battles. Just as children imitate their parents, believers should follow God’s example. His great love for us led Him to sacrifice His Son so that we might live. We can do that by following His example in our Lord Jesus Christ, emulating His attributes in our lives (see 1 Peter 2:21).
In 1 Peter 2:21 NLT says, “For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in His steps.”
Why have believers been called (see also 1 Peter 1:15; 2:9) to suffering? Because such suffering was endured by our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ had told Peter and the other disciples at the Last Supper: “A servant is not greater than the master. Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you” (John 15:20). When we patiently suffer injustice, we are following our supreme example in Christ.
That the believers were to follow in His steps means to follow in Jesus’ complete peace and trust in God. Our Lord Jesus Christ has given believers an example of how they are to face injustice and persecution. Peter set up Lord Jesus Christ as the model for the believers to follow; His example would have greatly comforted these believers, who soon would be persecuted for their faith. They should face injustice from harsh masters or from other authorities with supreme dignity, trusting God’s control.
How we live our lives should be characterized by our oneness with our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul explained that we are to live a life filled with love for others. Our love for others should be of the same kind that our Lord Jesus Christ showed to us – a love that goes beyond affection to self-sacrificing service. Our Lord Jesus Christ loved us so much that He gave Himself as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Our Lord Jesus Christ gave Himself in death as a sacrifice on our behalf. The sweet perfume relates to the acceptability of the sacrifice. God was not bound to accept any offering (Genesis 4:5); He did so only on the basis of the attitude of the giver. This focuses on God’s pleasure with our Lord Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. Because God accepted Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, we who believe are acceptable to God. Because of this, our love ought to also be self-sacrificial. Our Lord Jesus Christ had told His disciples, “Love each other in the same way that I love you” (John 15:12).
In 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 NLT says, “1 So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of His call. May He give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. 12 Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with Him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and our Lord Jesus Christ.“
Paul and his coworkers kept on praying for the Thessalonian believers, just as Paul prayed for all the churches. Although the promise of future glory is sure, believers still have a battle here on earth and the need for constant prayer from fellow believers. What were Paul and his coworkers praying for?
First, that God would make them worthy of the life to which He called them. To be made “worthy” has the same meaning here as it did in 2 Thessalonians 1:5. Salvation is sure, but the prospect of the glorious future should be an incentive to holy living – and believers will need one another’s support and prayers as they seek to live out their faith. The “calling” from God is that His people become like Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). This calling is a gradual, lifelong process that will be completed when we see our Lord Jesus Christ face to face (1 John 3:2). To be worthy of this calling means to want to do what is right and good.
Second, they were praying that God would fulfill all their good intentions and faithful deeds so that everyone will give honor to our Lord Jesus Christ. The ultimate goal of all believers ought to be to glorify Lord Jesus Christ through their actions, words, thoughts, and motives. When believers live to honor Lord Jesus Christ, our Lord Jesus Christ is honored in them.
This can happen because of the undeserved favor of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ. Believers cannot show Christ’s glory or be glorified in Him because of anything they can do – it is only because of God’s grace. Only by God’s grace did our Lord Jesus Christ come to die for sinners; only by God’s grace can people receive His sacrifice and be saved from their sins.
In Luke 6:12 NLT says, “One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and He prayed to God all night.”
Our Lord Jesus’ enemies had revealed their stubborn hearts and refusal to see Him for who He was; His ministry was increasing as people crowded in to hear Him. Our Lord Jesus Christ knew that He would not be long on the earth, so the continuing task of spreading the Good News of the Kingdom would be entrusted to a group of human beings whom He must choose. This was a daunting task and our Lord Jesus Christ needed the Father’s help. So Lord Jesus Christ went to a mountain to pray, and He prayed to God all night. This was not a quick call for help while our Lord Jesus Christ followed His instincts; this was an intense conversation as our Lord Jesus Christ sought His Father’s guidance in this supremely important task. So, this is also our important task while we are still here on earth.
Let me encourage our brothers- and sisters-in-Christ, and I want my readers to be both strong in the faith and sensitive to others’ needs. Because all, we as Born-Again Christian believers are strong in certain areas and weak in others, we constantly need to monitor the effects of our behavior on others.
