Alleviating Panic Disorder

Our anxiety does not come from thinking about the future but from trying to control it.”

38. Health Benefits of Prayer

Source: Depression and Anxiety – Canadian researchers at the University of Saskatchewan looked at the impact of religion on 56 people suffering from panic disorder, characterized by repeated attacks of intense fear that something bad will occur when not expected. They found that those to whom religion was most important felt less stressed and experienced fewer symptoms of panic attacks.

Spiritually: The Bible New Living Translation (NLT)Proverbs 22:8 stated, ” Those who plant injustice will harvest disaster, and their reign of terror will come to an end.

On Psalm 53:5 NLT says, “Terror will grip them, terror like they have never known before. God will scatter the bones of your enemies. You will put them to shame, for God has rejected them.”

On Luke 24:37-39 NLT says, “37 But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost! 38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.”

On James 2:19 says, “You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.”

Life Application: iLumina Bible Studies – He who sows iniquity will reap calamity and futility, and the rod of his wrath [with which he smites others] will fail.

These people in the locked room were still wrestling with the fact that our Lord Jesus’ body was missing, and then they heard amazing stories of His appearances to several people of their group. Our Lord Jesus appeared among them suddenly, and they were frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost. But Lord Jesus’ body wasn’t a figment of the imagination; they weren’t seeing a ghost. Our Lord Jesus Christ encouraged them to look and touch. He had flesh and bones and could even eat food (Luke 24:43). On the other hand, His body wasn’t a restored human body like Lazarus’s (John 11) – He was able to appear and disappear. Our Lord Jesus’ resurrected body was glorified and immortal.

The acceptance of a creed (even a true one) is not enough to save anyone. The demons have complete and thorough conviction that there is one God, but they are terrified by that truth. They believe in God only to hate and resist Him in every way they can. Their “faith” even moves them to a negative reaction, while the faith of some of James’s readers isn’t real enough to give them a shiver. The demons tremble in terror and demonstrate that their “faith” is real, though misdirected.

Unfortunately, we have this Coronavirus COVID-19, and what’s going on now. Some people become so desperate to end their discomfort that they consider suicide as an option. People with panic disorder have a higher rate of other medical illnesses, particularly heart disease. Despite what people may believe, chest pain that develops during the panic attack is usually not due to a heart problem. These can include any use of alcohol or drugs, prescribed and over-the-counter medications, and other substances such as caffeine that worsen symptoms.
